Abstract: Rev. John Thomas, a pioneering Christian missionary, made significant contributions to Tamil culture through his work in language, literature, education, and social reform. His efforts in translating and refining the Tamil Bible played a crucial role in shaping Tamil Christian literature. As a scholar of Tamil, he contributed to the standardization of Tamil prose, enriching the language’s literary heritage. His establishment of schools and promotion of education, particularly for marginalized communities, helped bridge social inequalities. Through his missionary work, he advocated for social reforms, challenging caste-based discrimination and promoting equality. His influence extended beyond religion, fostering intellectual and cultural growth within Tamil society. The Tamil Christian community, in particular, owes much to his legacy, as his efforts laid the foundation for its development. Rev.
