Impact of Montfort brothers’ approach to education in south India: A retrospect

Abstract: This research paper is attempted to reveal the contributions St. Louis de Montfort’s vision for education in South India - By the late 18th and early 19th centuries, they had established a network of schools in France, focusing on primary education and vocational training for young boys - Montfort School in Yercaud became a flagship institution, setting standards for holistic education and inclusive pedagogy - Their philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that education should nurture the whole person, fostering academic excellence alongside ethical and social responsibility - One of the key aspects of their educational mission is the emphasis on inclusivity - The Montfort Brothers have consistently prioritized providing education to marginalized and underprivileged communities, ensuring that financial or social constraints do not hinder access to quality learning - Lessons in ethics, social justice, and interfaith dialogue are integrated into the curriculum, ensuring that students develop a sense of integrity and a commitment to service - India, with its vast population, diverse communities, and historical ties to missionary education, presented both a challenge and an opportunity for the Brothers to make a meaningful impact - The researcher scholar applied descriptive, interpretative and discussion method for the successful completion of this paper.
