The Kongu Nadu region, situated in the western part of Tamil Nadu, has played a pivotal role in the socio-political and cultural evolution of Tamil history. This study explores the significance of Kongu Nadu from the Sangam Age through to the Later Chola period, highlighting its contributions to the Tamil socio-political landscape. During the Sangam Age, Kongu Nadu was known for its unique culture, trade, and agricultural advancements, contributing greatly to the flourishing Tamil society. The region’s strategic location facilitated its role as a hub of internal and external trade, impacting the economy of the Tamil kingdoms. Additionally, Kongu Nadu was integral in shaping the political dynamics of Tamil rulers, as evidenced by its influence during the Chola dynasty, particularly the Later Cholas.
