The balance of revelation and reason in the leadership of the Prophet Muhammad

Author(s): Prince

Abstract: The paper aims to analyze the role of divine guidance in life of Prophet Muhammad and to what extent Prophet employed his human intellect in addressing significant situations throughout his life. A key question to be explored is: if the ministry of the Prophet (PBUH) was informed by divine guidance, does that mean that he did not use human intellect/reason, or devise strategies and diplomatically handle critical moments when in Mecca or in Medina. This study examines the relevance of divine guidance or human reason in tackling the everyday challenges faced by the Prophet and his newly formed community of believers.
