The Delhi Sultanate (1206-1526) was one of the most significant medieval empires in India, known for its military conquests, administrative prowess, and economic advancements. One of the most remarkable aspects of this economic structure was the Karkhana system-state-sponsored workshops that manufactured a wide range of goods for the royal court, military, and administration. Karkhanas functioned as production hubs where skilled artisans, craftsmen, and laborers worked under state supervision to create high-quality textiles, weaponry, jewelry, metalwork, pottery, and other essential items. These workshops were integral to the Sultanate’s economy, ensuring a steady supply of goods for both domestic consumption and international trade.
