Chila Rai: An unforgettable hero of Cooch Behar

Abstract: The paper discusses various aspects of Chila Rai’s life. It has also been highlighted how he executed his plan of conquering the entire North East India. Though he was not the ruler of Cooch Behar but he provided all possible help to his brother Maharaja Naranarayan. It was only through the great military skill of Chila Rai that the Koch king was able to conquer various parts of North East India so swiftly. Chila Rai also played an important role in capturing the capital of the Ahom king. The most significant factor in the Koches' decisive triumph was Chila Rai's fearless attitude, which garnered the affection and admiration of all of his supporters and warriors. He should be remembered not only for his military achievements but also for his patronage of some learned scholars.
